You’ve got arthritis in your thumbs, you know every Fortnite dance, and you have dreams about your next online battle. You’re a gamer to the core and proud of it. If your gaming setup lacks pizazz, however, you’re missing out on half the fun. For as much time as you spend with your console (more than you’ll admit to anyone, really), you don’t want to phone in your gaming surroundings. Make it the ultimate man or gal cave anyone has ever seen. Need some inspo? Read on for what today’s gamer needs to create the ultimate gaming setup.
The Proper Foundation
That desk you got at the yard sale four years ago? Yeah, that’s gotta go. As gamer Chris Amidon puts it in this article for IGN.com, “With the amount of time you spend sitting at your desk feeding your gaming addiction, you need to upgrade. Take a look at our roundup of computer desks, and find one you like. Personally, I’m a fan of a desk that can hold a huge monitor and a full-sized mechanical keyboard but doesn’t overdo it…” And although computer desks would work well, a gaming desk is the height of gaming accoutrements. With built-in power strips, audio jacks and USB pass-throughs, and cable trays for organization, gaming desks are a must.
A Curved Monitor
If you’re all about appearances, let’s face it—the curved monitor is just so dang cool looking. The truth is, though, it can actually enhance your playing over using a flat monitor. For games that require speed and accuracy (read: pretty much all of them), the curved monitor maximizes your view while offering seamless rendering and laser focus. With a flat monitor, you’re limited to where you can sit. If you sit too far to the right or left, certain shapes will be distorted. So, yeah, you’re going to get the “oohs” and “ahhs” based on looks, but a curved monitor will do so much more for you than just look radical.
Take the time to learn a bit more about the curved vs. flat monitor debate; you’ll likely find a curved monitor offers the gaming experience you’ve always dreamed of.
A True Gaming Keyboard and Mouse
When it comes to gaming, a keyboard isn’t just a keyboard. As this TechRadar.com article points out, “While there are practically thousands of mechanical gaming keyboards to choose from, the Logitech G613 is one of the very few that’s completely wireless. Not only is lag non-existent, this gaming keyboard offers all the tactile feel, media buttons and macro keys we need.” Even if you don’t go for this particular model, consider a gaming keyboard as another essential to improving your game and game room.
As for the gaming mouse, you can take into consideration that your previously mentioned proper gaming desk is already a giant mouse pad, which means you can go wireless. And these days, you can enjoy features like long battery life and switching gears while playing to further hone your gaming performance.
Spectacular Speakers
Although many gamers like to play with their headsets on, there’s something to be said for a bangin’ set of speakers when playing your favorite game. If you choose the right kind, pairing them with your phone using Bluetooth connectivity should be no problem at all.
Can We Get a “Heck, Yeah” for Headsets?
Last but not even close to least is the headset, as any gamer will tell you is essential to making the most of your gaming experience. This is particularly true if you enjoy playing games against virtual partners. Your headset can make or break your game if you’ve been known to play for hours at a time. Whatever you do, don’t skimp when it comes to headsets, as you want a clear connection, longevity, and a comfy fit.
Some might scoff at the need for an ultimate gaming setup but once those people get a load of a room set up with these features, they become true converts.
