Are you one of ‘those people’ who likes taking photos of just about anything you see? Don’t worry I’m not judging – I take photos of good looking food all the time, but if you are one of those people you should really have a look at Over, a photography app for iOS that let’s you add text to your photos.
How It Works
The concept is simple. You either choose an existing photo or take a new one, and then you have the option to add text or artwork, tweak the font settings (like colour, spacing and size), save the created photo and share it on the main social networks.
Now, there’s already an abundance of photography apps in the App Store but Over’s simple, modern & minimalistic interface makes using it a real pleasure – and that’s what makes it stand out for me. With 25 pre-installed fonts to choose from along with a couple of artwork packs (with icons and captions) you won’t be short of tools to help you transform an everyday photo in to something personal and original.
If you happen to feel like you need a little more to spark your creativity, the app allows you to import your own selection of fonts from your computer. This CNET tutorial shows you how to pull it off using Dropbox by simply downloading it and opening the font using Over – simples!

The image above is a great example of how Over uses typography to make an image that much more special. If I wore a hat, I’d tip it to the person who thought of the idea!
Will Over Make You Use Your Camera More? Probably.
I’d be hard pressed to call myself a serial photo-taker – yet after downloading this app I’ve found myself using my camera than ever before! If you’re a heavy user of image-based social media like Instagram, Flickr and Pinterest then you’re likely to enjoy using Over. Having said that, the uses for the app aren’t restricted to just social media, because whether it’s for a scrapbook, a romantic gesture or even just a personal memory; Over is an app that makes photography fun & personal again.
