Truffol Autograph: A Leather Skin For Your iPhone 5S

Skins like Truffol’s genuine leather Autograph series on the other hand are a reasonably priced option at $18, and with the added ability to emboss up to three of your initials on to it, this is going to be a stylish and personal accessory for your iPhone.

I have a tendency to use my iPhone without any protection, simply because I like the feeling of that thin aluminium build that Apple did such a great job with. Sometimes though, even a minimalist like me wants a change.

The obvious choice of bumpers and cases can add a little bit of personality to your phone, but you get the added bulk as part of the package.

First Impressions & Setup

Truffol-Autograph

Truffol were kind enough to send out a couple of the Autograph iPhone skins; one in black and one in orange. They also offer the options of navy and red.

Judging by the chic looking envelope the skins were sent in, it’s clear that Truffol’s making a conscious effort to set a positive first impression. Well guys, it worked!

Inside the envelope you’ll find your Autograph skin, a screen protector for the front of your iPhone and a small cloth to help you clean the dust off your phone when applying the skin. Both extras are included for free inside the envelope which is a really nice touch from Truffol.

Setting up the skin works just like a conventional screen protector; you peel away the sticky plastic and use the adhesive on the back of the skin to stick it down to the back of your iPhone. This has always been something I’m really bad at but thankfully I managed to do a decent job aligning it to my iPhone properly!

If you’re not great with this kind of thing yourself, I’d suggest asking a family member or friend to help.

Design & Durability

The Autograph skins are made out of a genuine Italian leather (cowhide), sourced from a place called Santa Croce sull’Arno to be precise.

While I can’t call myself a textiles expert, the leather feels of a very good quality and has been surprisingly resilient to my every day use. I initially expected the corners to wear away as I took my iPhone in and out of my pocket, but over two weeks of use the Autograph’s entire rim has stayed intact and stuck to the device.

The Autograph skin is only 0.6mm thick, meaning isn’t going to be adding any extra bulk to your iPhone which is great if you enjoy the natural slimness of the device.

The Truffol logo at the bottom of the skin is made out of 18-carat rose gold for the black & navy models, and stainless steel for the orange & red alternatives. It adds some extra ‘bling’ to what would otherwise be a bland leather skin, so it’s a nicely added design feature.

Beyond the quality of the design, the stand-out feature of the Autograph has to be the ability to emboss your initials. The level of detail in the embossed letters is impressive and I like that it’s subtle to the eye, all while adding a personal touch to the iPhone.

Truffol Autograph: Verdict

Overall, I was really happy with both of my Truffol Autograph skins. It’s a premium quality product and the ability to emboss your own initials is an awesome personalised feature.

When you consider the very reasonable $18 price tag I struggle to fault the Autograph, especially for someone who wants a stylish and affordable way to accessorise their iPhone.
