Acer announces new Swift 7 laptop that’s just 1cm thin

It looks like laptop manufacturers are on a mission to make their machines as ultra portable as possible, and so far the results look very impressive.

Today, ahead of IFA 2016 in Berlin, Acer has announced a range of laptops including the Swift 1($249/€349) all the way to the very good looking Swift 7 ($999/€1299) in an attempt to please the budget-minded consumers as well as those looking for a portable workhorse. (The Swift 3 & 5 are their two other mid-tier offerings).

For the $999 price tag, Acer’s Swift 7 packs in 9 hours of battery life, a 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 256GB SSD, 8GB of RAM and a 13.3 inch full HD IPS display with a small bezel — all into an impressive 1cm thin, gold & black aluminium chassis. You’re also getting two USB 3.1 Type-C ports (take that MacBook!) and a HD webcam with HDR.

Pricing & availability: The Acer Swift 7 will be available in North America in October with prices starting at $999, Europe starting at €1,299, and in China in September with prices starting at ¥6,999.
